While the participants sit there watching the show, someone sidles up to them. It’s one of the performers who was up on the stage. “Hey. What are you doing here Cheryl? Mitch is gonna be so pissed if he sees you…what did you do to your hair? Nothing? You look different. It looks good though. Hold on…” the performer looks towards the stage “I have to go. We’ll talk later. Oh remember what I told you about Bill?, well girl, you won’t believe how he…oh, shit, I have to go. Can you do me a favor, hold this for me until I come back.“ She hands the participant a photo album, blows a kiss, says “love ya” and goes up on stage.
Embedded in this actual club are the narratives that the audience-participants from the city walk continue to follow. They are still who they were in front of their refrigerators. A network of imaginary connections spread out beneath the actual “surface” of the club. The core group of nightclub performers treats each of the character-participants differently according to their relationship with them. Someone might be in love with them. Someone might demand to be paid back for a loan. Another might flirt. Another might…
